I think being mindful and being present takes time and dedication. The fact that you experienced it once was a great accomplishment. Awesome.
I have done over 15 one week silent retreats and it is still challenging to remember to be present while doing tasks. Keep trying a second and a minute at at time. Seriously, it is like that. The mind is a wild thing that is not so easy to control. I think the Buddha used the analogy of a wild monkey to describe how our mind act… Wish you the best in your search.
