Maybe the pain you are trying to avoid is what you need to move forward. My point is that both pain and failure can be good. In fact, I dare to say pain is indeed good. Failure is the only thing that leads to success.
Our Society has become experts at avoiding pain. We all use different things to numb out, ignore and forget our pain. We shop, we drink, smoke, throw ourselves into unhealthy relationships, use sex and our bodies to avoid what we really feel inside. The list goes on and on. We want to feel good and be happy.
But what happiness can we find when we are avoiding the truth about ourselves and our lives?
Have you ever wondered what would happen if we sat with our pain? If we felt the gut-wrenching waves of un-happiness. If we decided today I’m going to sit and cry about my past. I’m going to cry and tell God why I am so angry. I’m going to sit long enough to face what I am avoiding, what is my pain really about?
Pain points to problems that we just refuse to face. Listen to your pain. What change are you avoiding? What mountains must you begin to climb and what chapters of your life must you begin to close?
