Last week’s Summer Game Fest didn’t disappoint in its announcements of a slew of new games, accompanied by trailers and cinematics. One of these announcements included the recently rumored LEGO Horizon Adventures, a new LEGO game for Playstation’s exclusive Horizon franchise, which had already been leaked and speculated about over the last couple weeks.

LEGO Horizon Adventures was rumored to possibly have a simultaneous Playstation and PC release, something that Playstation Studios rarely does for its flagship titles–Helldivers 2 being the most recent example–but the confirmation of this along with a Nintendo Switch release was unexpected. This officially makes the game multiplatform, which is unheard of for a Playstation-exclusive title; it being a LEGO installment for the franchise is the obvious reason, but it doesn’t take away the fact that it’s still a Horizon title that can be played on multiple platforms.

This isn’t the first time the Dutch developer Guerilla has collaborated with LEGO; in 2022 a few months after the release of Horizon: Forbidden West, a Tallneck set was launched for fans of the game to bring the gentle giant to their shelves. It’s unknown if the game will inspire any more new sets, but with the release coming up this holiday season, any new sets would be announced some time soon to correlate with the release.

What we know so far aside from its slated holiday release is that it’s being developed by Guerilla and Studio Gobo; this will be both developers’ first LEGO game. The trailer that accompanied the announcement boasted the usual ability to customize characters extensively, a feature that is always included in LEGO games, as well as the ability to customize Mother’s Heart, the settlement where Aloy’s story begins in the original game. Beloved characters such as Varl, Erend, Teb, and Petra, could all be seen in the trailer as well; there was even a dance party in which Erend was in a banana costume, which immediately sparked fanart from fans online.

Rumors indicated the game would follow Horizon: Forbidden West’s story, however it will instead follow a LEGO-ified version of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s story. This means the story will be goofier and more lighthearted, and the dinosaur-like robots that inhabit the earth are entirely made out of LEGO. From Playstation’s description on their website, players already know the LEGO journey has taken some creative liberties; Aloy will be discovered by Rost in a cave rather than the Nora matriarchs and Elisabet will be an ever-present hologram guiding Aloy through her journey of discovery, rather than a mysterious doppelganger of Aloy.

It appears the game will give players an opportunity for a playful, plot-tweaked, customizable experience of a game that follows a much more serious tone; as well as a happier, more care-free Aloy. It has the potential to be a fan favorite among players of the franchise, but only time can tell.

The game can be wishlisted on PS5 but not any other platforms at the moment, but as more news comes out about the game, this should become available, along with a specified release date and price.
