Creativity, the Hum-Drum & How to Keep Your Mind Fresh in a Routine-Driven World
Each morning you brew your coffee in the Keurig, or if you are especially old-fashioned — in a coffee pot. You gather your things and head for your desk or your car which will ultimately take you to your desk in some other office to which you feel chained.
It is you and your desk. Perhaps you’ve spiced it up a bit, added some tchotchkes and one of those fancy post-it note dispensers shaped like an animal.
Your boss comes in five-minutes after nine and the intern starts the office coffee to brewing. You work 9 to 5 with a one hour break in the middle if you’re lucky. Cook dinner at 6:30, shower at 7:30. Maybe you put on a face mask before bed or use charcoal on your teeth because it’s supposed to make your teeth as white as they were when you were seventeen.
Everyone has a routine and it seems that everyone is pushing routines. You see it on lifestyle YouTube channels, in magazines, and even from your mom. Hell, I push routines like they are the answer to life itself.
Except, they aren’t always.
