Your Mind your Own Dominion

Throughout centuries there have been a couple of narratives that have been so embedded in the minds of humankind that majority of the world’s population believe them to be true. Well, some of them are factual whereas other are just hmm…I would say made up for certain reasons which are either to boost one’s self confidence or others just to spread propaganda.

Lets be honest, its a noisy world when you're not in tune with your ‘inner’ self that’s why its always so cool to zone out,at least for me it is. Just sit there and think about nothing, but are you really thinking about nothing?

Little if no research at all has been done to prove this. At this point you are probably wondering what ‘this guy’ is ranting about or trying to put across. Most of us, knowingly or unknowingly are constantly having conversations with ourselves. It could be out loud or just inside our heads.

We argue with ourselves, constantly debating about who did what, why, when, where and how? Even as I write this, I am surrounded by people, I could easily reach out and ask them about what I should probably write about next but I am choosing not to. I am enjoying the debate in my head, I am certain that I have all the facts about the topic and the relevant arguments that go with it.

Growing up, I would often be somewhere with my mum and we would constantly come across ‘mad men’ in the city. I would spot someone and ask my mother why they were talking to themselves when nobody was around and she would sternly reply “they are mad!” The answer itself always gave me the impression that she was experiencing(the madness so to speak)it too but there was nobody around to tell her that she is also crazy. Best guess is because she did in silence rather that talking out loud in public like the so called ‘mad man’.

During these situations, I always sat back and thought that maybe, just maybe that is how they rationalize stuff, the ‘mad man’ that is. Yes they may be mad but is what they are saying making sense to them or helping them come to a solution about something?

By now you’ve probably figured out that all this banter is about embracing your mind and the benefits of talking to yourself. With all that said, here are a few of the good things that come with having personal convos per se with oneself.

Literally pat yourself on the back!

Nowadays, not everybody is willing to acknowledge something good that you have done, especially before other people. However, you should not always be willing to wait for others to acknowledge you when you know that your mind itself is what guided you to that insightful moment. So ideally one should do the right thing and thank the relevant person, the mind.

Argue it out it out in your mind

People always forget that when it comes to your mind, there are no restrictions in comparison to arguing with other people. Arguing with oneself gives you the option of evaluating the pros and the cons without any external influence and opinions. Look at your mind like a flash drive that can contain all this information, why else would you want to argue out information that is already there, in your mind.

Chance to VENT!!

This is one characteristic that is particularly easily noticeable in extroverted individuals. With them, they can easily do it with or without an audience truth be told. However, is it sensible to vent to oneself? In all honesty, I think it is, it’s like some sort of mental punishment or push to help that one cog rotate in that big machine which eventually sets the inception of that BIG IDEA. One important thing to note is that most times, introverts will tend to miss on this self affirming opportunity.

Embrace the ‘back of your mind’ voice

This is one cliche line that is used for the right and wrong reasons but it makes a lot of sense. Why would there be a voice at the back of your mind, who put it there and why is it even trying to reach out to you? People often forget that whatever we tell ourselves doesn't just disappear into thin air but is always somewhere within our minds, embedded. It acts as a mechanism to help us understand our thoughts better in the long run and help us be in tune with our self conscious.

Zone out a lil bit

All in all, we have to embrace our crazy minds and thoughts that we are not willing to share to the so called ‘outside world’ which at most times doesn't share the same perspective as our minds. Whenever we do this, we let different concepts play around in our minds, opening different ‘portals’ and ‘folders’ within our minds for us to explore.

Besides, its always encouraged to seek an expert opinion.
