Perspective: what presidency was free from internal hidden forces? Name one. I sincerely doubt from George Washington times to today not ONE Oval Office occupant experienced the sacrosanct order of command we think we want.
I’ve zero problems with adults in the room — adults free and clear of electorial whimsy — piloting our republic for which it stands. Adults who brave tsunamis of ridicule from family and friends who wonder out loud, “how can you work for the White House?” Adults who practice common-sense compassionate confidence as they purposefully thwart demagoguery in the making. Adults who know (based on all too many historical examples) may very well find themselves, family and friends in concentration camps because they stayed silent.
Martin Niemöller’s words are more prescient today then ever before:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
