The 2 Most Difficult Choices I’ve Ever Had To Make In Life

When I was 18, I blinked my eyes for a moment, and then I realized I was now a 20-year-old man. In that moment, I decided to become a developer and artist.

Of course, whenever we set goals in life, life tests us. And I was no exception — not even close.

These were the two most difficult choices I’ve ever had to make in life — and both directly impacted my art and developer journey.

Hard Choice #1: Stop playing videogames

Videogames are the ultimate creative work made by humanity.

Thanks to playing video games, I saw incredible worlds, warriors fighting against impossible enemies, friendship, brotherhood, and much more. I made a lot of friends over the years.

Sadly, the golden age of video games ended, and a new dark era began.

For a time, video games were an escape from the cruel world.

Time and time again, I would play, each time with fewer friends — fewer brothers. I would be slapped in the face by reality after every season until I decided to leave everything behind to play the real game — the game for survival and glory.

I started acquiring skills, making projects, and learning from mistakes — I was building a future.

Hard Choice #2: Leave friends behind

True friends reveal themselves in times of need, but also in times of growth.

I was invited to a few parties over the years, to go to events, hang out, drink, smoke, or have fun with the ladies. I always wondered what the point was if, after each event, we all returned to the real world. Not many were happy when I shared something cool or new I did; on the contrary, working on myself made me lose more friends than anything else.

I then realized that friends come and go, even the ones who call you their brother.

But here’s the thing:

Being forced to make these choices ultimately got me to where I am today — a stronger, more focused individual with a clear vision for my future. Sacrificing the comforts of my past, whether it was the immersive world of video games or the camaraderie of friends, allowed me to channel my energy into becoming a developer and artist. These difficult decisions shaped me, pushing me to grow and to create a life that aligns with my true passions and ambitions.
