Meet Robert

Robert is a 48 year-old technician that installs services for a local cable company. Robert has been doing his job for twenty years, and doesn’t adapt well to change.

“If it ain’t broke — don’t fix it.”

Robert has seen his college-aged kids use VR, and finds it interesting, but has very little experience with it.

Thoughts on Price for Each Platform

Robert is a saver, and has more than enough money to purchase equipment if he wanted. However, purchasing VR equipment and computers is far from his mind. He’d be willing to give it a shot if there was a cheap entry point.

The Application

The VR application will show technicians how to install the new cable box on the side of the house, and best practices for routing wires. This is a new type of box that has not been seen in the field, so very few techs, Robert including, have seen how it works.

For the most part, there won’t be a lot of interaction other than selecting parts and moving to the next step. However, it is important that Robert feels immersed in the experience — like he’s at a real house installing a real box. The graphics need to be good enough to paint the picture of being in a neighborhood, but they do not need to be photorealistic.

Best Hardware for Persona and App

Because the technicians will be out in the field typically and don’t have access to expensive hardware, the Google Cardboard would be the best solution for this application.
