Is poetry dead or alive?

Is poetry dead or alive?

It all depends…

Many of the great poets of the past for example are certainly physically dead, and all they can leave us (depending on their era) is their words on the printed page or website. The words alone — read without knowedge or context or the significance of the poets intent — could indeed be dead, and deadly boring.

However you are alive, and you may already be a great fan of poetry, reading it aloud for the power of the words and the effect it can have on you personally.

If so — have you ever considered pushing forward one step more and making an audio reading of that favorite poem or two?

There are of course already some archives online where audio versions of poems may be stored, with some sort of official reading done by a sophisticated poetry expert.

However is this good enough? They ‘get’ the poem — or so we assume. They know exactly how it should be read, and how to emphasise it. However perhaps you know better? Perhaps you could create your version of the poetry reading that brings out your own particular insights into that poem, and perhaps you could share that with us for our benefit.
