This is indeed the secret sauce that separates successful companies from industry champions. A few decades ago names like Fairchild Semiconductor, Ampex, Hewlett-Packard and IBM were synonymous with tribe-building, whose members would venture off to form the Adobes, Ciscos, Googles, and Apples of today.
To put figures into perspective, Endeavor Insight’s study into Silicon Valley’s ecosystem finds that in 2014 out of 130 Bay Area tech companies trading on the NASDAQ or NYSE “70% of these firms can be traced directly back to the founders and employees of Fairchild. The 92 public companies that can be traced to Fairchild are now worth about $2.1 trillion, which is more than the annual GDP of Canada, India, or Spain.”[1]

At this very moment, we are living through a long-awaited renaissance whose inception dates back to Friday 31st October 2008 18:10:00 UTC. The moment when Satoshi Nakamoto declared “I’ve been working on a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party.”[2] The birth of Bitcoin paved way to the largest movement since the World Wide Web.
However, the Renaissance is like no other before. Our values and principles within the distributed network society require a novel approach to community-building. Where not a single entity may violate or infringe on the rights of others or amass a controlling stake.
Building a strong team in a decentralized world may sound like an oxymoron at first glance. Understanding that a paradigm-shifting society requires a original approach is key.
