New Star Wars Film Breaks Domestic Records

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has become the highest grossing film of all time in North America. The firm overtook the $750 million haul that James Cameron’s “Avatar” scored in its initial theatrical run back in 2009.

On Wednesday, “Star Wars” took in about $8 million, pushing them film to $758.5 million in North America, meaning it surpassed the seven-month box office showing for “Avatar” in 20 days.

The staggering box office totals for Star Wars are just the tip of the iceberg. The film does not even open in China until January 9th, but Disney is already heavily promoting the film with the help of Chinese pop star LuHan.

Sound Tree Entertainment’s Gregory James Blount says that the promotion in Asia should play a big role in driving young audiences to the film.

The Star Wars phenomenon is just cranking back up. Two more films will be released in the next 18 months.
