This summer I have had the privilege of participating in the Washington Leadership Program (WLP), which strives to cultivate the next generation of South Asian American leaders. Through the program we have been able to meet incredible South Asian role models like the Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, who is currently the highest ranked South Asian American in the US government. Even though most who know me know how much I love talking about politics and current events, turns out that most of the South Asian community does not.

Eligible South Asians voters have one of the lowest voter turnouts of minority groups in the US. This is pretty ridiculous considering how relevant the issues that have come down the pipeline are not only to this election cycle, but to the past decade. Things like education, immigration, and religious freedom are at stake in the immediate future. The easiest way to engage in politics is by voting in local, state, and national elections. You can find out more ways to stay informed and involved in this coming election as well as political process in general by following our campaign ‪#‎SouthAsiansVote‬ on Facebook and Twitter.
