What Is Cultured Stone?
A home shell contractor based in Tallahassee, Florida, Sovran Building Systems offers a range of framing, concrete, masonry, and exterior trim/finishing services.
Manufactured stone, or cultured stone, as it is widely known, is an artificial stone that is actually comprised of concrete. It is made in a factory, where workers can mold it into a variety of shapes and dye it a variety of colors. As a general term, “cultured stone” entered the public vernacular due to the manufactured stone that Owens Corning sold under the brand name Cultured Stone.
There are many advantages of cultured stone over natural stone. For example, it is significantly lighter in weight, quicker to install, and easier to fix. Although it is also generally less expensive, the price point difference between quality cultured stone and natural stone may not be as great as many homeowners think.
