3 Steps to Elevate Your Cooking Game as a Vegan Couple

Let’s face it, the thought of going vegan can be intimidating but doing it as a couple can be incredible. Not only has it brought us closer together, it has also inspired our family and friends to make healthier choices. The moment we decided to go plant-based there was no turning back. Nevertheless, everyone needs to kick up their cooking game every once in a awhile. When you’ve gotten a few vegan meals under your belt, you might need a little inspiration. So, take the time as a couple to elevate your cooking game by going out and exploring great vegan restaurants in your city. It will inspire you!!!

Step 1 : Select a Spot

We jump online to select our vegan spots in the city. If your new to this search, chances are there are a few vegan shops right in your area. If not, Road Trip! BTW, there’s a difference between full vegan restaurants and places that have vegan selections on their menu. Either one could be good but it helps to be inspired by “Professional” Vegan Chefs & Restaurants. TIP: try using Apps like Happycow.com to select full vegan restaurants in your city.

Step 2: Rate the Food & Take a pic of the Menu

When you’re doing recon, critique the food honestly and enjoy discussing aspects of the dish together. Things like flavor, texture and appearance are important. When you find something that tastes incredible, take your notes home along with the menu.

Step 3: Experiment

We use youtube as a resource to recreate our restaurant findings. Remember, it’s not about getting the meal perfect. It’s about the quality time you spend together. Going plant-based will force you to discover new spices and ingredients. It’s trial and error. You can’t base your entire plant-based experience on one dish. Experiment, Experiment, Experiment!

Rick and I have completely opened ourselves up to experiencing incredible “Healthy” food. When you stop having preconceived ideas of what vegan food is like and see what these vegan chefs are creating, it will blow your mind. Going on Vegan “Foodie Dates” has been exciting. We’ve had amazing Ranch Vegan Chicken burgers from places like “HipCityVeg”; Vegan scrapple breakfast sandwiches from a cute spot called “Front Street Cafe”. The possibilities are endless and experiencing food from talented plant-based chefs has definitely redefined what healthy eating can be. And…it has inspired us to elevate our cooking game.
