TNAT Week 7 – Cowboy hunting and wine country
Jul 21, 2017 · 3 min read
This past week I went in search of cowboys and bears, sadly the cowboys underwhelmed and the bears were a no show. But that didn’t stop me having another awesome week of antics. Best bits below…
- Exploring downtown Calgary, soaking up the blue skies and skyscrapers. A sweet city with a rapid river and friendly folk.
- Stampede. I’m not quite sure what I expected but Stampede in Calgary was an, er, interesting affair. Picture a city full of people dressed in cowboy garb, drunken American girls stumbling around and lots and lots of fried food of all kinds. That’s Stampede. Very glad I went and Calgary Jen (I’ve realised I know a lot of Jen’s in North America so I’m needing to add nicknames) and her hubby Craig were great hosts for taking me – I feel it’s the kind of event that most locals shudder at the thought of! But we did discover the most awesome mini wine glass variety. at a post-Stampede cocktail session.
- Lake Louise. The gorgeous resort in the Rockies, beautiful scenery and lovely stroll with Jen around the lake. Then sipping Baileys coffees at Chateau Lake Louise. Lovely jubbly.
- Banff. The world famous Rockies destination, a cute town amidst some outstanding scenery. Full of tourists mind – but I guess I’m one of them so can’t complain!
- Okanagan wine tasting. My local chauffeur Justin picked me up, drove me around several wineries to taste delicious local wine. Hats off to St Hubertus – the best of the bunch. Then a stint at the beach on Okanagan Lake made it a totally awesome day. And no sunburn! Only slight hitch was having wine we bought stolen from Justin’s car while we swam in the lake, the swines. But fret not we went back and bought more, obvs.
- Public pianos. I saw them in Montreal at first and now in Kelowna. They just have pianos in public places for anyone to play if they want to and I flamin’ love the idea. If only I hadn’t quit piano lessons at such a young age, boo.
- Catching up with Miss Jen Sutherland. One of my beloved Mads peeps and another wandering soul, it was an absolute delight to steal a couple of hours to check in and natter the afternoon away with lovely Jen (yes a different Jen! I told you I knew a lot of them).
