One of the metrics by which I judge a “burner” event, be it a warehouse party or a clothing swap or a regional burn or burning man itself, is the ratio of “participants” to “spectators”. Participants are part of the experience for other people. Spectators are not. Participants don’t have to be artists, they don’t have to make a tangible thing, but they do have to engage others somehow.
