What’s New in Speed Dial 2

We’re excited to announce the new major version of our extension for Google Chrome! Speed Dial 2 has been around for more than 10 years and we thought it is a good time for a major upgrade to celebrate the anniversary.

This would not be possible without the amazing support from our Pro members community and we would like to say “thank you” to every premium subscriber for supporting the development of Speed Dial 2.

We have recreated Speed Dial 2 from scratch to bring you the most modern, secure, and easy-to-use new tab extension and we will be rolling out these changes over the next few days. Please take a moment to learn about what’s new and what has changed.

Let’s start with the full Dark mode support

We’re adding full support for the dark mode. A new tab theme can also be set to ‘Auto’, which will use your system setting. Both the light and the dark theme can be customized separately — giving you an option to use a different background or color scheme for each theme.

Bookmarks management got a lot easier

It is easier to do any bulk operations with bookmarks — you can select multiple bookmarks at once to move them into a different group. We will be adding more functionality to help you organize your bookmarks with ease.

Sharing of groups (Pro)

We’re very excited about our sharing functionality available to all Pro members! Share a group of bookmarks and easily send them to your friends or teammates!

Selective groups

Customize which groups are displayed on each device separately. This is especially useful if you want to archive a specific group without losing your bookmarks. If you are using our synchronization, this feature lets you set up a different set of groups on each device (e.g. different groups for your work and home computer).

Simplified settings screen

We’ve simplified our settings screen to make it easier to configure your new tab page.

Improved Privacy

We cut down extension’s permissions to the bare minimum we need for our extension to work and we’re committed to keeping your personal information safe and secure. What has changed?

We made a decision to remove two features that were part of our new tab experience since the beginning — Sidebar, and Apps. Only a fraction of our users were in fact using them regularly and they have become obsolete as browsers evolve.

EDIT: Sidebar with Recently closed tabs and bookmarks is back in version 3.0.6
