JEE Main is one of the most important engineering entrance exams as admission to most of the premier and central government colleges in India on the basis of this exam. JEE Main Rank is essential not only for those who want to participate in the JEE Main central counselling for NITs, IIITs, etc. for those who want to qualify in order to appear JEE Advanced for admission in Indian Institutes of Technology.

Candidates after appearing in the JEE Main 2021 paper searches for JEE Main marks vs percentile. NTA JEE Main marks vs percentile are the percentile score corresponding to marks in JEE Main 2021. The JEE Main score is announced as percentile score as NTA conducts exam in multiple sessions. JEE Main marks vs Percentile is obtained through normalization. NTA adopts a unique normalization formula to arrive at JEE Main Marks Vs Percentile.

JEE Main percentile is NOT directly related to the rank secured by the candidate.

Factors affecting Percentile

The factors that affect JEE Main Percentile of a candidate are:

  • Raw score of the candidate
  • Quality of the paper
  • Performance of fellow candidates in the session

Candidate can also check JEE Main marks vs rank to get idea on their all India rank. JEE Main rank predictor is also very helpful tool in deciding the rank in NTA JEE Main. In this article detailing the JEE Main marks vs percentile, we look at the expected range based on the past trends and the normalization formula used by NTA. JEE Main college predictor is also a very helpful tool in getting information on colleges based on marks. The final marks and percentile will be announced through JEE Main result 2021.

NTA will declare the result of JEE Main 2021 by March 7 for February session. JEE Main 2021 result will be available online at http://jeemain.nta.nic.in/

JEE Main Normalisation Process

Before understanding the JEE Main normalisation, it is important to understand why it is incorporated. Normalisation helps in equalising the difficulty level of the exam conducted in multiple sessions on the scheduled dates. The JEE Main percentile score obtained by a candidate is determined only after applying normalisation to the marks obtained by a candidate. JEE Main Percentile scores indicate the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below that particular percentile in the examination. A percentile score is measured on the scale of 100 to 0 for each session of examinees.

After compiling the raw marks, the NTA applies normalisation formula to get the percentile scores of a candidate for each subject — Maths, Physics, and Chemistry as well as total. The highest score of each session will get the same percentile of 100 which is ideal. The percentile score has been used for the preparation of the JEE Main merit list. The percentile scores will be calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties amongst candidates with the same scores.

JEE Main 2021 Normalisation Process: Tie Breaker Guidelines

The following comes into effect when two or more candidates obtain equal percentile scores. The inter-se-merit will be determined according to the following rules in case of a tie.

  • Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Mathematics will be ranked higher
  • If a tie still exists, the candidate with higher Percentile Score in Physics will be given the higher rank
  • If a tie still exists, the candidate obtaining higher Percentile Score in Chemistry will get the higher rank
  • If a tie still exists, candidate older in age will be given preference

The JEE Main 2021 result will be released separately for each session (February, March, April and May). The best score of the two sessions will be taken into consideration for candidates who appeared in both the sessions. The merit list will be prepared on the final scores and ranks announced based on the same.

Thanks and Regards
