2017 Adieu & 2018 Anew
I love making New Year’s resolutions. I love the prospect of praying and planning for a better future. I love the end-of-year reflection on what was and what could’ve been.
The end of the year can be bittersweet and the new year sometimes overwhelming. I find myself sitting hours before 2018 with a murky mind trying to remember everything that happened in 2017.
2017 was a really, really big year.
In the beginning of the year, we completed all post-production on “Generational Sins” (2017) and had our first private screening of the film for marketers and producers on the Warner Bros. studio lot. We attended different conferences around the country and developed a team to find the right home for distribution for our feature film. I had the honor of speaking at my old high school for graduation and at my favorite movie theatre for their centennial celebration. After setting up the distribution details for our movie, we went on a college tour, getting the opportunity to meet with students and film professors to better understand our mission and how the story resonated with some of our audiences. The year closed with one of the most memorable nights of my life, the premiere event of the film at the Rowland Theatre in October and the national theatrical release of the movie.
2018… what will you bring? I have many dreams and timetables for what I would like to accomplish, but as I’ve learned time and time again my timing does’t dictate His plan.
Never mind the result of completing all of my 2017 resolutions or the realistic nature of my 2018 resolutions, this is an exciting time — a clean slate, and a time to reach farther and expect more of myself in order to find the a life I find compelling.
