#TuesdayTreats Saffron Honey
- 1/2 Tsp SHE Organic Saffron
- 1 Tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Good Quality Honey (we love to use the Blossom range by The Sheffield Honey Company) Note: If you are local to Sheffield you can pick up a jar at Mr Pickles, Yorkshires finest food emporium.
- 1/2 Tsp SHE Organic Ceylon Cinnamon (optional)
Place the saffron threads in a small bowl. Add the vanilla extract and stir until the saffron is well-moistened. Allow to “steep” for at least 10 minutes.
Gently warm the honey over low heat or for a few seconds in the microwave — just enough to slightly warm and liquify it. Remove the honey from the heat and stir in the saffron/vanilla mixture until evenly distributed. Allow standing at room temperature for an hour or two before serving so the flavours can mingle.
For a more subtle taste, you can add Ceylon Cinnamon. It gives it a lovely earthy taste and helps to breakdown the sharp sweetness of the honey.
Honey being the excellent preservative that it is, allows this mixture to be stored indefinitely. The longer it stands, the more harmonious the flavours will become.
