Project 366 / 2Clearing out the cupboards and being on the wagon

So it’s the 2nd January. Talking the resolution talk is easy, walking the resolution walk can be a whole other story.

Here at home we’ve pretty much cleared out the cupboards of all the high fat foods and high sugar snacks. You know, the ones which I wasn’t allowed to open before Christmas as they were specifically for Christmas (this included opening the cheese at 10pm on Christmas eve) and yet here we are now literally throwing the stuff away so we can conform to our new healthy eating regime. It’s a crazy time and a crazy waste of money.

Drinking has stopped too but in fact this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I used to wonder how someone could become an alcoholic. When I was younger I couldn’t even start to imagine drinking the day after a night out. In fact even the thought of a “hair of the dog” could induce vomit. Nowadays though I can happily drink day after day and actively look forward to it. Maybe the quality of drink has something to do with it, maybe my constitution has changed, maybe I’m becoming an alcoholic. I can’t leave a bottle of wine unfinished and whiskey has taken on a life of it’s own. My wife measured my standard glass of neat whiskey and found it contained 5 shots. I’d have at least 2 of these whilst just watching a film at home. Excessive? Maybe… Tasty? Definitely!

So yes, we’re back on the wagon, as if to prove that we’re not unfit, bloated alcoholics and so far it’s a pizza cake. Did someone say pizza?
