Project 366 / 26Is patience really a virtue?

  • I am impatient
  • Hesitation frustrates me
  • Adverts get in the way
  • I’m always waiting on technology to catch up
  • There aren’t enough hours in the day
  • 4G just isn’t fast enough
  • People drive too slowly
  • Opening an app or program takes too long
  • I’m tired but I haven’t got time to sleep

I truly believe that time is our most valuable commodity and I’m beginning to understand why. I understand that my time isn’t infinite.

The process of getting older, of witnessing the sheer speed at which life and time passes us by is never short of shocking. Of course when we are young we feel that we have infinite time; that we’re going to live forever. Our mortality is never brought into question. Time appears to pass slowly, probably due to the relation of how long you’ve been alive to time itself. So for example for a 5-year-old one year is 20% of their entire life. For a 50-year-old however, one year is only 2% of their life.

As I’ve gotten older I have found my tolerance for time wasters to have been greatly reduced. I value my time so much more and I find gratitude in those who share their time with me.

One day I want to be able to look back on my life and smile; smile that I have used my life well, that I have done some good, left my mark and have not wasted my time.
