When I say I know very little about LGBTQ+ society and history, that is very true. But it doesn’t invalidate my opinion.
The issue at hand is that trans people are discriminated by the people in positions of power — cis, white, males predominantly. In order to combat this you need to know what these people think and know how to change them. And as a cis white male, I am in a much better position to tell you how other cis, white, males act and think in private, when their guard is down.
You say you are basing what you know of how white men think based on those in power. Those in power are a very small minority. That is like basing my knowledge of Muslims based on those in power (generally misogynist dictators). By basing your opinions on what YOU THINK another group thinks, rather than what they actually think is doing a disservice to your cause.
So with that said, many cis, white, males, equate trans people to what they see in drag acts, which they will admit they are at the least uncomfortable with. Very few dislike or hate femininity in women.
You also misread what I said about violence. I never said that trans women were violent, I said it is the cis males that are attacking the trans women, because they hate what trans women are. I would hazard a guess that there is an overlap here with domestic violence here, so femininity does come into it, but it is not the only factor — many feel their own masculinity under threat. Cis women are less likely to enact violence against trans men, because generally cis women are less violent than cis men.
As I have said, I do not know the opinion of trans people towards drag queens, that is why I politely asked.
When someone comes forward to respond to an article like the one you posted and basically says “hey, i agree with you, I’m all for equality and inclusion, please educate me from your perspective, and here is the perspective I see every day from within the group that needs to do the most in order to change their attitudes” to respond in the way you did to basically say my opinions and knowledge are to be ignored is no better than the bigots excluding anyone else from taking part, whether in society, Hollywood movies, or discussion in general.
