This is our first piece of content as part of a series of research related to the effects on the F&B industry caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic meltdown. It is primarily for US-based audiences.

While every industry in the entire world has been impacted by COVID-19 in some way, industries, like grocery, technology and some sectors of healthcare are booming. But they are booming so much that they are struggling to keep up with the unprecedented demand.

Millions of tons of food from milk to produce are being wasted because food packers, distributors, butchers, and deliverers…

Our minds are programmed to seek the easiest solution, so many of us find it hard to look beyond our initial conclusion. This is especially true if we are pressed for time, inexperienced in our role or field, or overly confident in our abilities, experiencing strong emotions, or isolated from other points of view. Our thinking is also affected by our psychological biases, so second-ordering thinking does not come easily to most of it. It is a skill that we need to work hard to develop.

Say, for example, you are a restaurant owner. To boost dipping sales, you set…

AI — A Brief History

To many computer scientists from the 90’s, AI was something which everyone tried but didn’t really work. But now, AI is rapidly changing the world, changing the way we interact, be it online or offline. It is not only inching towards the accuracy of humans (e.g. language translation, speech recognition, OCR) but also surpassing humans (e.g. object recognition, self-driving cars).

Until now, AI has largely been about pre-programming tools for specific tasks. In these kinds of systems, the intelligence of the system lies mostly in the smartness of the human who programmed all of the…

Two years ago today, I started working full-time on dishq. It’s insane how fast the year has flown by and so would like to share some random reflections on year 2 and our plans for 2018.

Firstly, I’m thankful that we’re still alive. As an…
