After nearly ten years, the Philippine Men’s Football Team is set to be guided once again by head coach Hans Michael Weiss, as announced by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) on Tuesday.

During his initial stint with the team in 2012, Weiss led the Philippine Men’s Football Team to a commendable third-place finish in the AFC Challenge Cup and a semifinal appearance in the AFF Championship. Over the course of 44 matches, he achieved a record of 21 wins, 12 losses, and 11 draws with the Azkals.

Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta expressed his delight about Weiss’ return through a statement on the PFF website, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome coach Weiss back to the PHI MNT. He has always held the Philippines close to his heart and remains highly respected by players and staff. With his wealth of experience gained over the past decade, we believe his second tenure with the team will be even more successful than the first.”

Weiss will take charge of the squad once again as they prepare to face Nepal on June 15 and Chinese Taipei on June 19, with both matches scheduled to take place at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The former interim coach, Barae Jrondi, who briefly served in that capacity earlier this year, will hand over the reins to Weiss. Prior to his return to the Azkals, Weiss gained coaching experience in Romania with the first division club Otelul Galati, as well as with the national teams of Mongolia (2017–2020) and Laos (2022–2023).
