Men’s Singles Cha Young-hyun finished seventh

‘Figure general’ Kim Yerim (20, Dankook University) topped the short program at the ISU Challenger competition as she prepares for the 2023–2024 International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix Series.

Kim finished first in the women’s single short program at the Finlandia Trophy of the 2023–2024 ISU Challenger Series in Espoo, Finland, on Sunday (July 7) with a score of 70.20 points, including 37.98 technical elements (TES), 33.22 artistic elements (PCS) and one deduction.

The Finlandia Trophy is a challenger competition, one level below the Grand Prix series, and Kim competed in the Challenger competition to work on her scoring skills before her fourth and sixth Grand Prix competitions this season.

In the first task, a triple lutz-triple toe-loop combination jump, Kim was judged to have a first jump attachment (watch out for edges) and a connected jump quarter-landing (the jump rotation was insufficient at the 90-degree level), resulting in a 0.98 GOE deduction.

However, she continued her “clean performance” afterward.

After a clean double axel, Kim continued her performance with a sit spin (level 4) and then a clean triple flip placed at the end of her performance, which carries a 10% bonus, to earn a GOE of 1.86.

After completing the jumps, Kim finished her performance with a step sequence, a flying camel spin, and a change foot combination spin, all at the highest level of difficulty, Level 4.

However, Kim was docked one point for going over the time limit.

Her partner in the women’s singles, Wee Seoyoung (Surigyo), finished 15th with a score of 47.42, including a TES of 23.38, a PCS of 26.04 and two demerits.

Kim Yerim and Wee Seo-young will compete in the free skate on Aug. 8.

Cha Young-hyun, competing in the men’s singles, earned a total of 142.38 points in the free skate with a TES score of 69.95 and a PCS score of 72.43. This is a personal best in the free skate, surpassing his previous score of 136.74.

Combined with her short program (68.77 points), Cha earned a total score of 211.15 points to finish in seventh place. Her total score also broke her previous personal best of 199.18 points. 스포츠토토링크
