Wins Women’s Singles Final at WTT Contender Lima
Second singles title of the year, after winning in Lagos in June

South Korean women’s table tennis ace Shin Yubin (19, Korean Air) has won her second international women’s singles title of the year.

The world №9 defeated world №16 Bernadette Sötz (ROM) 4–1 (9–11 11–9 11–9 11–8 11–7) in the women’s singles final at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Lima 2023 in Lima, Peru on Sunday morning (July 7).

It was Shin’s second international women’s singles title of the year. She previously won the women’s singles and doubles titles at the WTT Contender Lagos in June in Lagos, Nigeria.

This is her third career WTT Contender women’s singles title. Shin won her first title at the WTT Contender in Slovenia last November.

The WTT Contender is a professional tour event organized by the WTT, the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) governing body. The WTT Contender is a lower level of competition than the WTT Champions and Star Contenders.

Shin’s performance at the event included a quarterfinal victory over rival Miwa Harimoto (15) of Japan, ranked 14th in the world. Shin avenged her loss to Harimoto at the WTT Contender Tunis in June.

Shin also reached the women’s doubles final, teaming up with Jeon Jeon-hee (world №1) to defeat teammates Choi Hyo-joo-Kim Na-young 3–2 (11–9 9–11 8–11 13–11 12–10).

The men’s doubles finalists, 스포츠토토 Lee Sang-soo and Cho Dae-sung, were upset by Japan’s Mizuki Oikawa and Sora Matsushima.
