With a view to mitigating hassles of watering and ensuring the desired place receives right amount of water evenly, you need to install the sprinkler system. The automatic sprinkler system ensures that the sprinkler not being moved from one place to another. No doubt the lower pressure of water in the automatic sprinkler system is a nagging problem. To avoid such a problem, you need a little forethought while installing the water line and the whole system.

Step 1: Elevation

The level of water line should always be at a higher elevation than any of the system since you might be aware that the water pressure drops by 0.433 psi for every 1-foot level and vice versa.

Step 2: Water Regulator

Basically, you need to check the pressure of a water regulator from the water line for its proper functioning.

Presuming that the above mandatory steps are taken care while installing the systems, in case you find low pressure in the sprinkler system, probably you can look for the other probable causes.

Step 3: Adjusting the Heads

By simply examining the sprinkler heads, you might notice that the adjustment of sprinkler heads is not proper. If so, you can simply turn the sprinkler head anti-clockwise for increasing the flow of water from the sprinkler head.

Step 4: Cleaning the Heads

There is a possibility that the sprinkler heads are clogged up with dirt, which is not allowing the pressure to flow from the spray. In order to arrest this, simply take out the head from the Riser while holding the canister and rotate the top of the head in a counter-clockwise. You will see a screen basket, which serves as a filter. This filter needs to be pried and rinsed in clean water. Once cleaned properly, you can replace the head to restore original position.

Step 5: Replacement of heads

When you open sprinkler heads, if you notice any cracks or the broken plastic casing is obstructing the heads to pop up optimally, it is time to replace the sprinkler heads. When decided to replace the head, make sure that the similar sprinkler heads are being bought from any home centers or online. Probably, the replacement of sprinkler heads requires some expertise in the field and it might be advisable to avail the services of a professional.

Step 6: Reducing the Sprinkler Heads

In case you have multiple sprinkler heads for each zone, you should remember that the additional sprinkler heads would cause a drop in the pressure. You can remove the avoidable sprinkler heads and cap the plumbing line leading to such additional heads.

Step 7: Installation of Boost Pump

This step needs installation of a boost pump on the main water line. To avoid apprehensions that the installation of the pump would enhance the electric consumption, you can contemplate of installation a pump start relay so that the boost pump operates only when the parts of a system require high water pressure in the whole sprinkler system. You will agree that since it needs some technical knowledge to install either of them, you need to consult an expert in the field if you are not confident of installing the pumps yourself.

Hope this guide will help you in maintaining the watering in your irrigation system. Let us know your thoughts on this tutorial and if you have any questions or doubts on the watering system on your garden, then you can freely ask it here in the comment section.
