Every great movement must face strong opposition. It’s what makes the triumph so much more fulfilling. Overthrowing the system and redefining the status quo gives movements pages in history. These actions of courage and bravery inspires generations to question, debate, and act against a system of any size. And while we can praise the faces like Mandela and MLK, there stood thousands behind risking their lives and fighting the good fight against an opposition intent on oppression.

With fights for civil rights, suffrage, and liberation, that opposition was clear and well defined. It was a group of powerful individuals with control of a militia, news organizations, and a prison system to silence those who challenged their authority.

Today, with credit to the many who suffered before, activism is a lot easier to engage in. Governments tend to be less violent in response, and people have more avenues to express their support. But with an easier access to influence change, why is it not easier to do so?

Combating a movement no longer requires just an aggressive milita or a politically powered smear. The strongest force against good is misinformation.

The world is more connected than ever. We can reach someone in seconds, technology is its most advanced, and health science is understanding more and more each day. Regardless, we appear to be…
