I get the feeling people don’t seem to understand (or want to understand) how this looks from a black perspective. What I keep hearing is “if a white cop can murder a black person and get away with it, why can’t we? We have the right to kill black people, too!” I understand that this was an accident, but Peter Liang still deserves consequences for his actions. I already know that the “blue shield” that supposedly protects all police officers primarily protects white men in the force. However, I agree with Annie Tan in saying that the protests are misdirected. If white police officers are getting away with murder, why not protest that? That way, Peter Liang would be treated equally and would still be facing consequences for his actions.
