3 Things that I Think are Well-Designed:

  1. soda can cardboard box dispenser

A soda can cardboard box dispenser has great packaging because a) it’s long and narrow to easily fit in the refrigerator b) has a tear off hole at the end of the box for easy access and c) has a handle in the middle of the box to carry the box from the store to the home.

2) a shoebox (designed by Puma and Yves Béhar)

The shoebox known as the “clever little bag” combines a shoebox and bag by manufacturing the shoebox without the traditional cardboard top and instead, uses a bag to wrap over and cover the shoes. The combination saves money for the company without sacrificing aesthetics, by not having to pay extra for cardboard material, and instead customers get a nice, reusable bag with a handle above it to help them carry their shoes with or without the bottom part of the box.

3. tri-fold clear plastic 12-egg cartons

Tri-fold egg cartons give eggs additional protection by adding another layer over the eggs on the opposite side of the lid, whereas traditional egg cartons come without the double padding protection. The cartons are also transparent so customers get a full view of the condition of the eggs without having to open the container, thus making shopping easier and faster while upholding sanitary conditions.

3 Things that I Think Could be Better Designed:

  1. a gallon of milk carton

A gallon of milk carton is heavy and a hassle to lift when pouring. The opening is in the top center of the carton and should be moved more to the topside of the carton for easy pouring and less cleaning of spilled milk.

2. paint cans

Paint cans are known for its contents spilling off the rim and over its containers, wasting paint with each use. Paint cans should be improved by having a small narrow rim attached to one end of the can, or having one part of the rim curved to look more like a spout on a tea pot or kettle.

3. olive oil containers

Olive oil containers drip over the bottle as soon as you pour and put the bottle back down, and since the containers are small and people use it on a daily basis for cooking, each spill is more of a financial burden. The spout could be improved if it were more long and narrow, and have a small cap over the spout so that it lessens the leakage.
