Don’t Fret Failures
Lead by Inspiring
A simple search for words “Success and Failure” on internet gives us the results of very familiar images, as shown above, and indicate that the general consensus of Success and Failure is, both, follow two different directions and there exists only one way to proceed, so you must pick your path now. But in reality, quite often, Failure leads to Success, that is, when you have the people with right attitude. As leaders or managers, there are several things one can do to make sure you are cultivating a culture where Failures are accepted as building blocks of Success.

Define Culture. Be Precise. Be Persistent. Follow up. It is very important in any organization for leaders to define precisely ‘the culture’ that will support success and also to be persistent in making sure the message is understood in its intended form by everyone in the organization.
Hire Right people, that fit your culture. Make sure the company culture has been delivered through many avenues during the hiring process. Have an elaborate dialogue around ‘company culture’ and its importance to succeed in the organization while interviewing a candidate.
Celebrate Success when your employees succeed. Be your employees’ biggest cheerleader. Remember, their success only brings more visibility towards your ability to attract and hire talents that contribute effectively towards organizational success.
Know Worth of your employees. Engage with your employees on a regular basis. Get creative and have healthy debates. Understand their view points. Know what ‘success’ really means to them.
Don’t Isolate when your star performer fails. When you have put an effort in hiring right talent that is really in sync with the company culture, don’t fret if your employee fails to deliver on one rare occasion. Rather, sit with her/him to have a conversation around cause of the failure, understand their point of view, have a little debate, if appropriate, but always end with encouragement.
Remember, a responsible contributor with a record of success never ‘likes’ to fail and the chances are, he/she will beat themselves up over an occasional failure more than a manager can ever do. So, be there to help them find their way back to success by reinforcing your faith in their abilities.
