Group texts combined with a dating app take off a lot of the pressure we all face when it comes to, “Who should start the conversation first?” or, “What should I say?” Let’s be real, dating and talking to strangers is awkward AF but when you do it with your squad, it can be fun and productive. The goal is to meet up with a new squad, get to know them, and see if there is any potential chemistry.

Here are some tips on group dating text etiquette:

1. Keep things personalized and light-hearted

Hinge published a report back in September, 2015 about how to successfully interact on dating apps. They found that a generic “Hey, what’s up” message received little to no responses from both sexes. Challenging messages like “Two truths and a lie?” were much more successful in response rates.

They also found that men are 98% more likely to respond to assertive messages like, “Drinks soon?” or “Free this week?” while women were 40% more likely to respond to messages about food, like, “Best discovery, Netflix or avocados?” or “Chocolate, red velvet, or funfetti?”

When it comes to personalizing a message, we all appreciate compliments, but I know that when many of us get first messages that only have to do with our physical appearance, we tend to roll our eyes. Use details from their Squad’s profile to start a conversation, and then make plans to hang out.

2. Be authentic

One challenge that comes along with group texting is trying to fit everyone’s personality in one conversation. The best way to avoid too much back-and-forth is simple: make plans and meet in-person! When you do feel the chat out, it’s important to be your authentic self so you can stand out make yourself known. Squad takes away the pressure of meeting someone one-on-one, so don’t be afraid to be yourself!

3. Keep the topics relevant

While this is a group text with your best friends, it should be totally different from your actual group text that blows up your phone every day. Inside jokes are great, but too many and you run the risk of alienating your matches. Make sure the things you’re speaking about are relevant to everyone on the chat — this will keep up the positive vibes.

4. Get right to the invite

The best way to use Squad is to have fun and flirty convos to figure out a place to meet up. Invite their squad out for drinks, to the beach, a game etc. and have fun with some awesome new people. Post-hang, use Squad chat to get each other’s numbers and make plans to see each other again (or if you’re feeling bold, get that info in-person

The best part about conversations on Squad is that you remove the awkwardness that comes along with one-on-one dating. Let us know how your Squad date goes, we want to hear from you!
