A great read Ali. The article was awakeningly pitiful. Let us all hope the world someday becomes a safe place for people of every creed and religion.
I have read the Quran myself and not one verse of it authorises polygyny or even vehemence for that matter. Like every other religion Islam also preaches love thy neighbour and do good for others. It actually goes one step beyond and strictly states one-third of one’s earnings should be given to charity, for the poor and the disabled. I hope people notice and take these good things from it.
This person you encountered was atleast dumb enough to pick on you for the perceived right of polygamy. There are other people out there who are tormented for crimes that they have no connection with or even had no idea of.
There is an Indian movie called “My name is Khan” in which the director has portrayed a time where just after the 9/11 incident, a little boy is murdered at school because he is a Muslim and the bereaving father goes on a journey to meet the President just to tell him “My name is Khan and I’m not a terrorist…” in an attempt to prove all Muslims aren’t violent.
The day people stop prototyping a certain religion or Skin colour to a certain behavioural attribute,we can start hoping for change. There is good and bad in every community and unfortunately the innocent people are the ones who usually pay for the acts of the demons just because they share a common line of ancestry.
