Teaching Days — 1

Happy teachers day to all.

I keep creating different series based on my experiences thinking that I will continue adding up to them. Let’s see how this goes.

So, One day ….. (stories begin this way, right?!)

I was known to be a serious person (teacher not much liked) always thinking of how to finish the syllabus in the set time-frame. I was always thinking of how to train the slow-learners so that they could attain more marks and I could escape the parents’ frustration.would maintain discipline if they wished to see a cheerful me in their class. Also I promised them that I would never scold them even if anyone of them misses to do their homework.

But, necessity is the mother of creativity too. One day I gave it a serious thought again. What would make my students always think of my subject. By force, I would never make them a ‘Shakespeare’. This one thought changed my mindset, my teaching methodologies.

I started implementing unique ways while I handled each kid, would try studying their behavioral patterns, their interests and then would come up with interesting ways of learning. It was no more teaching that I was doing but some sort of interactive sessions. Fun while learn.

Okay! no more autobiography.

I used to act, sing, dance, and did everything that make a strong impression of my subject matter on their minds.

Scene 1, Take — 1!

I get this scene to my mind for instance. One fine morning, I had to take a class for 7th grade students. I walked in seriously into a whole lot of messy minds, a clutter I should say. I stood silent for a few moments and in a stern voice greeted them all. Immediately I walked out of the class and made a different entry this time. A cheerful face, a smiley on the blackboard and greeted them all ‘ A happy morning’.

I asked them which disposition of mine did they like. The answer was obvious. Then I had made them promise me that they would maintain discipline if they wished to see a cheerful me in their class. Also I promised them that I would never scold them even if anyone of them misses to do their homework.

And that’s the sort of magician’s tricks I used play. Of course, would never reveal them to my competitors. They still ponder over — ‘How could Sri Ram instill vibrancy among his students?”.

Shhhhhhh….
