On Joining IDC

<Originally published at https://medium.com on April 1, 2019, here is the link to my bio at IDC: https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=PRF005250>

TL;DR — I am joining IDC today as a Research Director covering the intersection of Modern Applications and Modern Infrastructure.

My area of coverage for the past few years has been how cloud and container technologies impact modern enterprise IT. I have also recently started covering service mesh architectures. When Ashish Nadkarni, GVP at IDC posted a job opening for the role of Research Director responsible for covering these areas and how they impact modern infrastructure, it piqued my interest.

I have known Ashish through the conference circuit for a few years now and reached out to him right away. In the ensuing conversations, I learned more about the role, values, team, and culture. It was clear that there were mutual interest and respect. Fast forward to today, with the success of Service Mesh Day 2019 in my rear view mirror, I am joining IDC as a Research Director!

Role and Impact

This role of Research Director covering modern applications/ modern infrastructure matches both my experience and expertise directly, all the while is poised to push my boundaries on writing, consulting, and advisory skills. I am excited by the impact I can make in this role — leveraging my capabilities, and the credibility that IDC brings, and the supporting infrastructure that IDC provides.

This role provides me an opportunity to work on various research offerings with incredible analysts — including, but not limited to — Al Gillen, Matt Eastwood, IDC, Ashish Nadkarni, Eric Sheppard, Natalya Yezhkova, Larry Carvalho, Peter Rutten, Amita Potnis, Deepak Mohan, and more. I am beyond thrilled by this opportunity.

One of the questions that I asked all that I spoke with was ‘ what keeps them ticking at IDC?’. A consistent response was how ‘ intrepreneurship’ is valued internally within IDC. This struck a chord with me, as other values of loyalty and camaraderie.

What to expect?

As with any IDC analyst, you can expect me to publish periodic research reports related to my primary areas of research (Modern Applications) at the IDC portal. One can also expect me to continue writing at/ contributing to other publications (such as Forbes, DZone, The New Stack) as an IDC analyst. If you are my client, I look forward to continuing our relationship in this new context.
