Discovering Annapolis

Annapolis, the capital city of Maryland, is a ‘cute’ little town. No other word describes it better. Located on Chesapeake Bay, at the mouth of Severn river, it’s also referred to as the Sailing Capital of America. Wait but I don’t wish to put you to sleep with such boring facts I googled couple minutes back. Rather, I wish to emphasis on how underrated this place is on your “Places-to-visit-before-you-die” list.

So straight up, Annapolis promises a cool picturesque waterfront, cobbled market place filled with local bars, apparel shops, some exquisite (and surprisingly reasonable) dinning spots (most famous for crab cakes) and streets decorated with mawkishly pretty houses in every possible color- hues of red, blue and green, with ornamental plants to overemphasis their cuteness.

The waterfront is packed with privately owned yachts with their owners lazing around and soaking up the sun. The water is crystal clear and sparkles in broad daylight. The market place is littered with pretty looking shops with incongruously mediocre clothes. Some of my personal favorites include Kelwins- a really famous ice cream parlor, Hats in the Belfry- a store famous for hats in all possible shapes, Tutti-Frutti- famous for frozen yogurt in different flavors and toppings, Iron Rooster- for some mouth watering food and City Dock Coffee- for just the way it smells. It reminded me of visiting a Mall road in Mussoorie (*major feels*) sans the mountains, though a lot tidier version of the same. So if you ever happen to be visiting Maryland and have a day to spare, Annapolis should be your place to go.

Until next time.
