Getting started in something is always difficult. But once you get started, even if by a slip, trust me, you can go on a never-ending journey of doing it.

I ran into him the day I was late for office, and had to hurry. I was already an hour late. He was a tall, fit man with a smart beard, but the only exception being that he wore ragged and stained clothes.

He finally opened his mouth and said, “Help,”

I couldn’t wait longer. I told, “Sorry, have to hurry to office right now. Some other time.” I ran, caught the cab, fled to the office. I saw him through the windows of the speeding cab. He gazed at me as I went.

At this point, Jones stopped me and asked, “Well, if he was a well built man, as you had described, Then why was he in rags?

I said, “Well, my dear Jones, I too seldom knew about him at that time, but it later revealed itself.

That day had been rather dull. The manager took the wits out out of me for going in late. When I came back to my apartment, I saw that he was sitting in the reception.

I went and questioned the lady, why he was here. She informed me that he had been waiting for me from morning.”

I usually thought that these kind of men go away after, you know, begging a while, But he did not go. He had hope in me. I liked this particular attitude of his.

I came neared him, he stood up and greeted me. I took him to

my room. I thought the room was small for tall men like him. He was like Gulliver.

Jones interrupted, “Well, I have never been to your room. Can you tell me a little about it?

I said, “Yes, Why not?

My room is a small one with a hall, bathroom and a kitchen attached to it. I always sleep in the hall, on the mattress. The hall is not very big, as you might imagine, but it was enough for one man to live in it. I never use the kitchen. My landlady, Mrs.Smith, always cooks breakfast for me. I have the rest in the office.”

Now back to the story. I took him to the room, made him sit, bathed, and let him take a bath. After being refreshed, he looked exactly like a young businessman.

I gave him some of my clothes, informed Smith to make dinner for us. Then, I asked him who he was, and why was he in this state.

He began his narration. “I am Jake. I work at a software company called Infosys. The salary was reasonable, and I was leading a happy life. But recently, I don’t know whether I had done some mistake, or there was some business involved.

I asked what had happened.

He began to look like was both angry and sad. Then he said, in a high voice, “They took away the job from me!

I gaped at him.

For past two weeks I have been wandering here and there asking for help, when…

I interrupted him and asked, “What happened to your house? Why were you wandering in streets?

He replied, “Well, alike you, I too was living in a rent house. The landlady was kind only when I had enough money to pay her. But now, when I was penniless, she sent me out of the house. What can I do?

He began to weep.

I said, “Well, don’t you worry, I’ll let you stay here tonight, and ask a job for you in my office. Until you find your way into the new job, I will let you stay here.

He asked me that if I had any trouble in doing so. I replied that I had no problem in doing it. He thanked me.

The next morning, I took him to my office. I booked an appointment the day before. The interview went on for about one and a half hour. After the interview, the manager told me that he was very pleased of the man’s answers in the interview.

He also told me that he would be in work soon. As he had told, Jake was in my office in no time. He was living a satisfied life. But some few years back, he got transferred elsewhere. I have not seen him for so much years! How I regret it now!

Now Jones said, “Well, good man! You have done a great job! In fact, I am the lost friend whom you're hoping to look for!

I felt astonished. I asked him, “What a surprise! I have been telling my own friends’ story to my friend itself! Why?

He replied that he wanted to know whether I had felt good or bad about helping him. He said now agreed that I didn’t have any pain doing him good!

I went and hugged him. We were both old friends again!
