The FN P90

The FN P90 was also known as the FN Project 1990. It is a personal defense weapon (PDW) that was designed and manufactured by FN Herstal in Belgium. It was created as an answer to the requests from NATO for a replacement of the 9x19mm Parabellum firearms. It was designed as a compact yet powerful firearm for vehicle crews, support personnel, special forces, and counter terrorism.

Development began in 1986, and production in 1990, hence the 90 in the name. A modified version of the P90 was brought around in 1993, with a new magazine adapted to use a new kind of ammunition.

The P90 is currently in use in over 40 nations worldwide. They include, but are not limited to: Austria, France, Greece, Malaysia, U.S.A., Brazil, Canada, India, and Poland.

In the U.S., it is currently in use in over 200 law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. secret services.

While the standard P90 is restricted to military, law enforcement, or owners of a FFL, (Federal Firearms License) a semi-automatic version was created for civilian use in 2005.
