I disagree entirely, only 1/10 crimes that happen with guns are by guns obtained legally. I refuse to let there be an existing black market for such a deadly device and not have the same/easier accessibility to the same device to protect myself. Just because you may be scared of some hoodlum getting his hands on a gun, doesn’t trump my right to own, carry, and use it to defend myself. I’m fortunate and have never needed to, but this “make it a pain in the ass to get a gun!” is ludicrous. Not only will you be making more people want them(and not want to go through the bullshit to get one) but you’ll also be doing nothing to solve the problem at its cause. The countries with the highest gun ownership percentages have the least amount of crime. Education is the answer, support gun ownership and make educational classes mandatory in school, how to see if its loaded, how to make sure the safety is on, how to take it apart or “field strip” a gun to make sure its clean and won’t jam or misfire. Teaching “guns are bad and only kill people” is what makes them only appeal to violent people. This argument, this mindset due to your irrational fear, is not the answer to the problems we’re having.
