The only person you should compare yourself to is old you. Even though most of us try not to, we’re all guilty of comparing ourselves to others. We can make comparisons like, “I wish I dressed like so-and-so,” or, “I wish I were as rich as them.”

This is often unconscious, but it’s important to try to train ourselves to stop. While it may motivate us to better ourselves, constantly comparing ourselves to others can lead to negative thoughts. The only person valid for comparison is you versus older you.

Comparing ourselves to others can be both harmful and beneficial, depending on the context and our mindset. On one hand, comparing ourselves to others can serve as motivation to improve and strive for success. On the other hand, constantly comparing ourselves to others can lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

One of the biggest pitfalls of comparing ourselves to others is that it can lead to a distorted and unfair view of reality. Social media, in particular, has made it easier than ever to constantly compare ourselves to others and their highlight reels, rather than their everyday struggles. This can make us feel like we are falling short and not measuring up, even though that may not be the case.

Another problem with comparing ourselves to others is that it can cause us to lose sight of our own unique path and goals. We may start to believe that we need to follow someone else’s success story, rather than creating our own.

In order to avoid the negative effects of comparing ourselves to others, it’s important to focus on our own progress and personal growth. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, we should compare ourselves to our own past selves and strive to improve upon our own personal bests.

It’s also important to remember that everyone’s journey is different, and what may come easy to someone else may be a struggle for us. We should strive for progress, not perfection and to focus on our own goals and aspirations.

In summary, comparing ourselves to others can be beneficial in some cases, but it’s important to keep things in perspective and not lose sight of our own unique path and goals. It is important to focus on our own progress and personal growth and compare ourselves to our own past selves instead of others.

You can try this simple exercise check your’s phone gallery and find your two years old picture(2021) and imagine does at that time you ever think where you are currently now. This is your progress and valid comparison of you vs you. Just because we are not so great in certain areas, it doesn’t mean we should feel inferior or feel bad about yourself. In fact, our differences should be celebrated and embraced, not metrics for comparing. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.
