I liked reading your post. You give a lot of details and your argumentation is comprehensible. I sometimes also ask myself the question, why is it, that German people are constantly reminded of their horrible past and other nations are not? How come that other nations like Great Britain and America are not immediately associated with their cruel past? Maybe it is an issue of time or comparison of the crimes and the knowledge about them.
