GSoC’23: Embarking on the Coding Journey with OpenMRS
The anticipation and excitement of the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program have been building up for weeks and I am delighted to announce that I have been chosen as a contributor for this year’s program, collaborating with Open MRS to make valuable contributions to the development of the Android client
The community bonding period has provided an excellent opportunity to establish connections, understand project goals, and collaborate with mentors. Now, as the community bonding period comes to a close, I find myself eagerly preparing for the coding period of my GSoC project.
Reflecting on the Community Bonding Period 🤝
During the community bonding period, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the Open MRS community, interact with fellow developers, and understand the project’s requirements in depth. It was an exciting phase of discovery, where I explored the Android SDK and gained a deeper understanding of the Open MRS platform. I successfully established the project on my local machine and obtained the requisite permissions to actively contribute to the GitHub repository.

Effective communication with my mentor has been instrumental in shaping my project’s direction. We engaged in regular discussions to refine the project’s scope, establish milestones, and define our expectations for the coding period. My mentor provided invaluable insights and shared their expertise to help me grasp the intricacies of the Android Client and align my work with the overall goals of OpenMRS.

Objectives ✅
My goal for the upcoming week is to address the app’s crashing issues and enhance its functionality by incorporating additional modules and functions into the Android SDK.
