Common Mistakes to Avoid When Brushing Your Teeth
A beautiful smile is actually one of the best assets that we can have. But among of the things that can destroy this is poor dental hygiene habits not caring for the teeth properly. Keep in mind that good dental habits start at home and by brushing your teeth properly. This is important to make sure you have healthy gums and teeth. But there are actually a lot of common mistakes that may or may not ruin your chances of having a beautiful and healthy smile.
1. Still using your old toothbrush
Toothbrush with frayed or broken bristles will clean your mouth as it should. It is best to change your toothbrush every three months before its bristles lose their flexibility and function. And basically, bacteria and food debris start to fester between the bristles. So make sure to change your brush every three months.
2. Not brushing long enough
Ideally, you should brush your teeth for two minutes to make sure that you covered every aspect of your mouth. It also gives the fluoride in the toothpaste sufficient time to be absorbed in your tooth’s enamel. By brushing your teeth less than the recommended, chances are some areas of the mouth are neglected. So make sure to follow the recommended duration of your teeth for two minutes.
3. Rising the mouth with water after brushing
It is quite common for some people to rinse their mouth with water after brushing their teeth. It has become some sort of habit. But actually, water cuts down the efficacy of fluoride from your toothpaste. You can spit out your toothpaste but don’t rinse your mouth with water after you brushed your teeth. Instead of water, you can use a mouth rinse or mouthwash. However, make sure to wait about 30 minutes after brushing your teeth if want to to drink any beverage or water.
4. Not flossing your teeth
If you do floss your teeth, then good for you. If not, then make it a habit of flossing once a day. It is required by the dentists so that you can remove the food debris and plaque stuck between your teeth. These are the places where you brush couldn’t reach. If the plaque is not removed, then it will turn into hard calcified deposits that can damage your teeth.
Getting a new habit of brushing your teeth regularly takes about a few weeks to learn and get used to. You can try including at least one new routine every week and you will notice that your mouth feels a lot cleaner and fresher. This will help motivate you to continue with more new routines and changes that will improve your dental health.
