Loved this article! It was really interesting to see the connection between these advertisements and what’s happening in our culture. In the Visual Culture class I’m taking we are looking at old paintings of the female nude. Even hundreds of years ago nude paintings that wear meant to signify beauty were described as strictly for the “male gaze.” Comparing these paintings to the advertisements we see in society today, it doesn’t seem like much has changed. Hopefully more people will come to this realization that we don’t always have to stand for things just because it seems like everyone else is.
