Something is definitely happening to this planet…

It was all fun and games when we heard threats of the earth heating up in the next gazillion years. One of my high school teachers warned, ‘One day, you’ll just be walking and your hair will catch fire’. All fun and games as we laughed and took nothing seriously.

Then we started hearing news items about countries experiencing degrees as high as 47.1°C.

The ice-bergs started melting.

Sea levels started rising.

The climatic patterns began to act a little funny.

We started sweating profusely.

Agriculture started experiencing massive declines.

Mother Nature started hurling deadly weather elements at us — deadly hurricanes and cyclones, never-before-experienced storms and the calling-for-attention wildfires all hit us unexpectedly.

Today, I cannot fall asleep without some kind of breeze — be it from a fan or an air conditioner...because Mother Nature sure as hell isn’t voluntarily blowing anything my way. Today, sweat soaks my clothes even when I am seated, doing nothing. Today, the heat is unbearable, and it bothers me.

The occurrence of global warming and climate change has been sung to us numerous times. Yet, not every human being is concerned about the state of the planet in which we LIVE! People still doubt that global warming even exists.

We didn’t care when the animals were losing their homes and families. We didn’t care when the icebergs were melting. We still don’t care even though we are experiencing the most absurd weather conditions in history.

Whether or not global warming is real, one thing is for sure… Something is definitely causing Mother Nature to act up. Something is definitely changing the environment… and we must do something. We must care.

Because, I don’t know about you… but I don’t want my long-awaited, flourishing afro to randomly catch fire any time soon.
