My World

My world’s been slipping away
I see it in the bird’s flight
And notice things have far less taste

My ribs hurt when I take a deep breath
So I can no longer meditate

The colours have washed away
I could keep buying more colourful things
But they don't replace the days

The minutes are ticking off
I'm confused about what's real and not
And I always want to sleep

But I've got work to do
I must keep getting up and dressed
As long as I've the mind to

I have friends and family
And as long as I have people to see
I have days, if only a few to keep me up

Until I can finally sleep

And it's not my world anymore
