Democrats — This is How You Lose

Today’s news is all about the N-word.
In the wake of a former White House staffer’s tell-all about Trump, the headlines scream about the possibility that the President used a racial slur. Out loud.
Secretly, breathlessly, the #Resistance hopes that this will be it. Finally, the thing. At last, he will be driven from office with the albatross of old misdeeds hung around his neck. In the end, the evil that men do will come back to them.
Nope.
By now the orders have already gone out from high atop Fox Mountain: go forth and find a recording of a prominent Democrat using a racial slur. Anyone of stature will do, but we prefer, in order:
1. A current Federal office holder.
2. Anyone who’s been talked about as a Presidential contender in 2020.
3. A former Federal office holder.
4. State government officials
5. Thought leaders of the Left.
Before long, whatever produce comes from this harvest will be playing on the airwaves and social media. We will hear vile words spewing out of the mouths of Democrats.
Someone will go down for this. But not him.
Remember that time you notched the anti-Semite arrow to your bow, aimed it at Donald Trump, and hit Al Sharpton instead?
Remember that time you hurled your #MeToo spear at the Womanizer-in-Chief and hit Al Franken?
(Maybe you just don’t like guys named Al. Just because one of them claimed to have invented the Internet? Let it go already).
Any time these issues come up — racism, misogyny, homophobia, corruption, collusion — no one is prepared for the response, which is always the same. Your target’s defenders and apologists find a Democrat who said or did similarly horrible things and they neutralize the issue.
1. You won’t vote for Republicans because they are womanizers? So are Democrats.
2. You won’t vote for Republicans because they are misogynists? So are Democrats.
3. You won’t vote for Republicans because they disdain the poor? So do Democrats.
One by one, these issues get taken off the table by the highest-stakes game of “whatabout-itis” ever played. The moral high ground, the one you think you can take away from the serial adulterer and opportunist, is lost.
Time to focus on the big picture:
1. National debt
2. Healthcare
3. Money in politics
4. Term limits
5. Security
You won’t win in the court of public opinion. There will always be a Democrat living in a glass house. Get to the issues people live and breathe every day. Talk to people who can’t afford healthcare because they spent all their money on health insurance. Talk to people who, despite making good money, are up to their eyeballs in debt. Talk to people putting pennies in their kids’ college funds, knowing it will never be enough. Talk to people who are paying into Social Security with every paycheck, but still put money in their 401k.
Find out what the Americans who go to work every day for sixty cents on the dollar care about. The ones who don’t care who’s gay or who likes guns or what country you come from. The ones who pay full price for everything. The ones who always get a tax bill, no matter who’s in power.
Figure out what they care about and get to work on it.
This is how you win.
