Analysis: The biggest digital collectibles brands on VeVe

Today we dive deeper into the biggest collectibles brands on Veve for the Top 3 Licensors who take the biggest market cap: Marvel, Disney, and DC.

Marvel

As expected for Marvel, their biggest character, Spider-Man, takes almost 50% of the total market cap of the licensor. Out of this $14.6m, around $8.5m come from the collectibles series that brought the First Appearance of Spider-Man (Modern Marvel S1 — Spider-Man).

Marvel Mightys, are also a very popular brand of collectibles on Veve. These take around 17.5% of the total market cap.

Their biggest collectibles series are: Captain America (Mighty) and Fantastic Four (Mighty). Both account for around 15% of the Mighties brand market cap.

Disney

For Disney, we can see the prevalence of the biggest collectible series on the platform: Golden Moments.

This brand takes around 68.5% of the total market cap of Disney collectibles. Their biggest series and also single collectible by market cap is the Partners Statue with $8.5m.

Two interesting Golden Moments are Star Wars (2nd biggest with $3.2m of market cap) and The Simpsons (5th biggest with $1.3m of market cap).

DC

For the DC analysis, we incorporated two licensors: DC Direct and Warner Bros.

As we would expect, their two biggest brands/characters first appearances (Batman and Superman) also take most of the market capitalisation with over $12m (around 70%).

For the Batman Black & White, we have the following distribution fo market cap:

  • Batman Black & White S1: $7,147,945
  • Batman Black & White S2: $850,195
  • Batman Black & White S3: $630,805
  • Batman Black & White S4: $511,087
  • Batman Black & White S5: $575,172

The season 1 with the first appearance of Batman as #100 Todd McFarlane Batman stands and the biggest of all 5.

Main takeaways:

Collectors tend to value brands who have characters with big fan bases. The first appearances of these collectibles tend to be much more sought after by collectors, specially the biggest characters of the biggest licensors.
