Yesterday, one of my projects, LibHunt, was featured on ProductHunt (for the record, if it isn’t obvious :), the name LibHunt is inspired by ProductHunt). Thanks to @twghost for making the effort to submit it.

In general, it received a considerable amount of love (up-votes) for the short period that people could see it in the “new” section. Of course, not everybody checks the new section. I’d guess, it would be just a small fraction of all the visitors of the site. Unfortunately, at the time of LibHunt’s submission, around 9 a.m. San Francisco time, the whole “Popular Today” section was already full. Then, as you can guess, the stories on the homepage receive more organic views and up-votes than any of the ones that are waiting in the new section. Consequently, all the products that haven’t reached the homepage at that time are in a considerably inferior position.

The moral of the story

If you wish your product to have the maximum reach and impact when published on ProductHunt, you should submit immediately after 00:00 San Francisco Time. At that point, the “Popular Today” list is refreshed, and all new products appear immediately on the homepage. Hence, your product will reap the maximum possible attention. Of course, that won’t guarantee you heaps of people up-voting your product; it will just maximize your chances.

I hope this will help you when you are launching your next product.

Cheers!
